HFC Phase Out – One Step Closer

One step closer to a global agreement on the phaseout schedule of HFC’s under the Montreal Protocol being signed this year.

On March 31st 2016 the two Presidents announced another significant step in their joint climate efforts. The United States and China will sign the Paris Agreement on April 22nd 2016 and take their respective domestic steps in order to join the Agreement as early as possible this year.

According to the statement, both leaders recognize that the Paris Agreement marks a global commitment to tackling climate change and a strong signal of the need for a swift transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient economies.

Another new application specific refrigerant. Looks like technicians are going to have a lot of choices in new and replacement refrigerants in the future.

Asahi Glass (AGC) announced that it has successfully developed AMOLEA™yd, a new refrigerant grade for AGC’s AMOLEA™ brand lineups. This new refrigerant has Low Global Warming Potential, has superior energy-saving performance as observed compared to existing products and is designed for use in centrifugal chillers, binary cycle generators, and waste heat recovery heat pumps.

When Will R410A Reach The End?

EPA Snapp LogoWhen will R410A reach the end of it’s life? That’s a question a lot of people are asking. Well, in an article published on “The News” AHRI, NRDC have aligned on Phasing Out Certain HFC Refrigerants. The proposal would phase out the use of R-134a, R-410A, and R-407C in chillers.

According to the news release, “The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) issued a joint letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in support of changing the status of certain refrigerants used in liquid chillers under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program effective Jan. 1, 2025.”
